About Pete Rekstis

An experienced football coach at the collegiate level, Pete Rekstis has served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Rhode Island since 2014. Among his responsibilities in the role, Pete Rekstis creates practice programs and develops game plans as well as recruits student-athletes from around the nation. His accomplishments include assisting the team in its 2018 winning season, its first in 17 years.

Pete Rekstis has also held defensive coordinator positions at such institutions of higher learning at Miami University, Kent State University, and Austin Peay State University. While at Kent State, he played an integral role in advancing the team from its position as the lowest ranked defense to a top-rated defense, statistically, and, for his efforts, he received two Northeast Ohio College Assistant Coach of the Year awards.

Pete Rekstis also has experience as an assistant football coach at Youngstown State University and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. At the latter institution, he helped the team become 1996 Freedom Football Conference Champions. Moreover, he assisted the team in becoming the first in the Academy’s history to advance to the NCAA Division 3 playoffs.
